Flyers fall to Montreal in opening game, thanks Refs!

When you lose the first game of the second round of the playoffs, it’s hard. But when you loose it because of a terrible call with one minute left in the game it’s a real shame.I know the coaches and players aren’t going to say it on camera so I will. The teams played a very close game and the ref decides to make a call with one minute left in the game, which I knew at the time that it would cost the Flyers the game.

It’s bad enough they aloud the previous goal which was pretty obviously hit with a high stick. I could see them saying they couldn’t say it was hit high with 100 percent certainly, so I will give them that one. But that penalty was so obviously not a trip it really hurts. It was a great, clean shoulder check.

Our goalie Biron who I had a fantastic first serious had a bad game. I was waiting for it to happen and unfortunately it did. He was extremely lucky that the Canadiens hit the post twice, had one go between his legs and somehow stay out of the net. The hit stick goal should have never even happened, he played it terribly.

The bottom line is the team as a whole didn’t play well enough. They need to step it up if they plan to win the series and I believe they will.

  1. While I can understand the goal being counted, as it was really difficult to tell, the penalty was simply a horrible call. As a referee, if there is only one minute left in the game, you must be 100% sure that you are making the correct call. If you’re not, you simply don’t make the call.

The Flyers played an overall solid game, but can improve in every area of their game. It looks as though it won’t be a blowout like many people, including myself, had thought.
