Flyers make some big moves on Draft Day!
The Flyers Acquired Steve Eminger from Washington and a third round pick in the 2008 NHL Draft from the Washington Capitals in exchange for a first round pick in the 2008 NHL Draft. Eminger is only 24 and at 6’2”, 212-pounds the defenseman has a big upside according to GM Holmgren.
The Flyers also traded R.J. Umberger and a fourth round pick in the 2008 NHL Draft to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Colorado’s first round pick in the 2008 NHL Draft and a third pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Umberger looks like he is going to be a solid player but there was no way they could have signed both him and Carter. They took defenseman with the 19th pick which hopefully will help them down the road.
In another move they traded Prospal to Tampa Bay in exchange for a seventh round pick in the 2008 NHL Draft. Prospal was acquired late in the season and did a fine job for the Flyers but signing him again would be a big problem.
It has been reported that the Flyers signed Carter to a 3 year deal worth about 15 million dollars. If true it’s a great move to keep a very good young player.
